Newsletter: Irons in the Fire
A quick rundown of active projects
Short newsletter this month. In my experience, the Fiction category on Substack is split between those who write fiction and those who write about fiction, with very little overlap. I firmly consider myself one of the former, and since I have a lot of fiction to write, I should probably focus on that instead of devoting word count to a monthly newsletter.
Here are my current/upcoming projects for the next couple months.
March 16th - Regularly scheduled Micro Monday post. This one’s called The Flood, and I’m really pleased with it.
March 27th - A speculative short story called Super. Honestly not sure how to classify this one. Blue-collar horror? Broompunk fantasy? I’ll let the reader decide.
March 30th - Too Many Mondays. This is a tradition where I devote the fifth Monday in a given month to sharing work from other writers I enjoy. I only have two stories in my folder so far for March, so send me your recommendations!
April 3rd - Chapter one of a new serial called Crickets. It’s my take on the Fossegrim story, though I’d say it’s more magical realism than modern fairy tale.
April 10th - Crickets, Chapter 2.
April 17th - Crickets, Chapter 3.
April 24th - Crickets, Chapter 4.
May - Hiatus.
All other waking moments - Second draft of The Hope and the Ruin, which I hope to have done before I go on vacation in May. This is a sequel to my debut fantasy novel, Company of Ghosts, so if you haven’t checked that one out, please do so!
